   ==CowleyRoad.org - the The hidden history of Oxford's favourite street==
CowleyRoad.org is an open, DIY community history project.
===What is it?===
CowleyRoad.org is It's like a Wikipedia for the Cowley Road.  Every public or commercial building from the Plain to Magdalen Road has its own page. Anyone is free to contribute We are building an open archive of facts or images. The ultimate aim is to chronicle the architectural and photos celebrating Cowley Road's social history of every buildingand architectural life, back to the 1850s when Cowley Road was first created from open fieldswith all content [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_culture_movement freely available] for community use.
The project will be officially launched during Cowley Road Carnival 2017, followed by a series of public workshops. The workshops will collect local people's knowledgememories and images, and get show people set up how to add their memories and research these to the website.
===Who made it?===
This is a project from artist [http://eleanorg.org Eleanor Greenhalgh] and programmer [http://charlieharvey.org.uk Charlie Harvey].
 
It uses software from [https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/MediaWiki MediaWiki], and features some images from other open archives such as [http://www.geograph.org.uk/ Geograph]. We are working in partnership with [http://cowleyroadcarnival.co.uk Cowley Road Carnival].

All contributions are released under an open license, so unlike other archives, all content on the site is genuinely available for free community use.
