The national chain Costa Coffee opened a branch here in 2007, occupying 141-145 Cowley Road. It was the first in a wave of coffee shops opening on Cowley Road which replaced old shops around this time, and was seen as an ominous sign by some local residents.

It was the local branch of 'Barclays Bank' from 1932 until the early 2000s. After Barclays closed it was the Save the Children offices. It was once the home of Samuel Grafton, sculptor.<ref>See photo in Cowley and East Oxford past & Present by Malcolm Graham & another</ref>
