This page gives information about how you can use and share content from this site.

Why does copyright matter?

Any pictures or writing you create cannot legally be copied or reused by anyone else, unless you give permission. Copyright lasts for 70 years after your death, and archives often find ways to extend this period for longer.

As a result, important documents of our community history remain under lock and key, and can't be copied without paying a fee.

We believe that community history should be accessible to the community, and that cultural works should be available for copying and reuse without charge. CowleyRoad.org aims to build an open archive which can be used by local people, researchers and artists.

Therefore, we encourage you to allow reuse of your contribution when you add anything to this project.

Can I copy things from this site?

Yes, though there are restrictions. See full details below.

All text is available under a Creative Commons Atrribution-ShareAlike license.

Licenses for images may vary. Click on the image to check the license.

What do the licenses mean?

  • Creative Commons Atrribution-ShareAlike: This is the default license which will be applied to your work if you contribute to this site and do not specify otherwise. Anyone can copy and reuse the work for any purpose, but must give credit. If you reuse the content and share it, you must release it with the same permissions so it can be shared alike in future (meaning it cannot be used in a project published with "all rights reserved"). Full details are here

  • CC0 (Public domain): The contributor waives all copyright. You can copy and reuse this for any purpose, even without giving credit. If you are uploading content with this license, use with care and read the details here first.

  • Creative Commons Atrribution-ShareAlike-Noncommercial: You can copy and reuse this, but you must give credit and must not use it in any commercial project. This license prevents companies making money from your work, but beware it also prevents use by any small community project which generates income. If you reuse the content and share it, you must release it with the same permissions so it can be shared alike in future (meaning it cannot be used in a project published with "all rights reserved").
